Race to Hell 2026: five days of mud and navigation in Tuscany

No help on course and no short cuts: five days, a GPS and a winch. The race that shows what an ATV tyre can really do.

Race to Hell

Race to Hell is five race days of 40 to 100 kilometres of mud, water and climbs in the hills around Siena. It is navigated by GPS with timed sections, no outside help is allowed on course, so every machine carries a winch. The best three days count towards the final classification.

In February one of Europe's toughest tests for ATVs and side-by-sides got under way in Tuscany. The organiser, European Offroad Academy, laid on five days of racing, a different course every day, and the rule that sets the event apart: on course, everyone helps themselves.

Around 80 crews entered three classes, ATV Spartan, ATV CrossCountry and SxS, including riders from Slovenia and Croatia. By day two the rain had turned the course into a chain of deep mud ruts and stream crossings, and many riders spent more time at the winch than in the seat.

That is exactly why Race to Hell is such a good tyre test. In mud it is about whether the tread clears itself, on rocks and roots whether the sidewall takes the hits, and on the long link sections whether the tyre survives all five days. With no service on course there is no second chance.

The next edition runs from 16 to 20 February 2027 in Rapolano Terme near Siena.
